20th Running of “Battle Of The Stocks”
HydroTech Drainage presents the 2013 Battle of the Stocks. 32 of the best drivers from all over New Zealand are set to hit AmPro Tools Woodford Glen Speedway for the 20th running of Battle of the Stocks.
This iconic Canterbury event has withstood the test of time and is without doubt one of SuperStock racing’s most prestigious events. Originally the brainchild of then promoter Jeanette Bolt, the ‘Big Guns’ of the Stockcar (as they were then known) scene converged on the Glen some 20 years ago after the New Zealand Stockcar Championship at Invercargill. Names such as Rumney, Podjursky and Ellis to name a few, brought a professionalism to Stockcar racing that had never been seen before at the Glen. 20 years on and many battles later, this iconic show has continued to grow with drivers from all over New Zealand wanting the opportunity to enter the battle! With no less than five past or current New Zealand Champions, numerous Grand Prix winners, World 240 and Island Champions, this year’s Battle of the Stocks will once again deliver SuperStock racing at its best. Check back soon for a full entry list that includes current New Zealand & World 240 Champion Shane Penn, 3NZ Thomas Stanaway, North Island Champion Graeme Barr and South Island Champion Nick Fowler. Race fans, this is a star studded field not to be missed!

Hydro Tech Battle of the Stocks
AmPro Tools Woodford Glen Speedway and Hydro Tech are thrilled to announce the Super Stock competitors for the 2013 Battle of the Stocks.
For two decades, Battle of the Stocks has been one of the most popular events on the Woodford Glen calendar for two reasons. 1) It brings some of the best Super Stocks in the country to Canterbury and 2) It always produces outstanding racing.
The 20th edition is no exception. An awesome line-up of 32 high quality drivers from all over New Zealand will converge on AmPro Tools Woodford Glen Speedway this Friday and Saturday night.
Naturally current national champion Shane Penn (Palmerston North) headlines the list, but with so many big names entered there are many talking points.
Former national champions Craig Boote (Nelson), Simon Joblin (Palmerston North) plus local favorite and last year’s Battle of the Stocks winner Malcolm Ngatai will be among the favorites, but with such a competitive field, racing is bound to be close.
Battle of the Stocks is contested under a best pair’s format, each North Island driver paired with a South Islander. The pair with the highest points after six heats (three each night) plus Saturday night’s top ten shootout, will claim the tallest trophies in New Zealand Speedway.
North Island drivers: The youngest of three Joblin brothers, Adam has track form after winning the New Zealand Grand Prix at the Kaiapoi track less than two months ago. Runner up that night, Rotorua’s Scott Hewson is a Battle of the Stocks regular who is always at the front of the pack. Former World 240 champions, Andy McCabe, Peter Bengston, North Island Champion Graeme Barr plus the competitive Scott Joblin and former Canterbury team’s racer Kevin Roberts (all Palmerston North) will be amongst the drivers to watch. Stratford’s Phil Ogle has been threatening to win a major title all season and is unlucky to only have a third place in the World 240s to show for his efforts. Ogle now deserves to be ranked amongst the best in the country.

South Island drivers: Not to be outdone, the southern men have some big names of their own. When it comes to Super Stock racing there is none better than three time national champion Boote. The experienced driver, on a comeback to the sport after several years out in the wilderness, is now back to his brilliant best after a season of car troubles and readjusting to the sport.
Boote’s Boss Motorsport stable, have recently purchased the car Jack Miers drove at Woodford Glen 12months ago when he teamed up with Ngatai to win the 2012 Battle of the Stocks.
South Island champion Nick Fowler will be behind the wheel and showed the kind of speed that will make him a strong chance at AmPro Tools Woodford Glen two weeks ago.
Boote teamed up with Barr to finish second last season but he was less than impressed. He is determined to win the Battle of the Stocks title and with the right run, he could do it in 2013.
Nelson’s Thomas Stanaway has been brilliant in his breakout season which culminated with his third placing at the national championships, expect a bold showing this weekend.
Canterbury’s Jason Smith has had a golden summer so far and will be handy partner for one lucky northerner, as would Nelson drivers Shane Harwood, Brett Nicholls, Blair Cunningham and track specialist Jared Gray.
Please note: 16th North Island driver now confirmed 591p Wayne Hemi.
Although unlikely and not expected, there is a very small chance the entry list could be subject to minor changes due to many of the entries racing at the teams nationals over the weekend.
