“Woodford Glen Speedway & Deno’s Towing Services present The 2013 DHL Saloon Speed Week” Saturday December the 7th will see Woodford Glen Speedway host twenty two of New Zealand’s best Saloon drivers as the 2013 ‘DHL Saloon Speed Week’ hits the South Island. Presented by Cardwell Racing Supplies, this year’s DHL Speed Week promises to deliver fans some of the closest ‘wheel-to-wheel’ Saloon racing action on offer this year in the South Island. Once again a quality field of drivers has been assembled for the week long series that travels the length of the South Island which will see the drivers take on seven different tracks. Heading the list of entrants is 2012 series champion, Chris Cowling of Tauranga. Auckland’s Nigel Ross, runner up in last year’s series is once again trekking South in an effort to stand atop the winner’s podium. Past New Zealand Saloon Champion (and second runner up from last year), Steve Williams who races out of the Huntly track also returns for the very challenging series in his immaculate Ford V8 powered car. The South Island is also well represented with Cromwell’s hot shot, Daryl Ainsley ready to take it to the North Islanders. Ainsley raced at the Glen last weekend to gain some valuable track time and showed great pace in his well prepared Ford Mustang. The format for the night will see the drivers split in to two groups who will each race two heat races over 12 laps. After all four races have been completed the top 14 highest points scorers qualify directly to the DHL, Cardwell Racing Supplies A-Main over 20 laps. Further to this the top 8 highest points scorers will race in the Valvoline ‘Shoot-Out’ to determine the grid positions for the A-Main. Grid positions 9 – 14 will be filled by the drivers who finished 9th – 14th on points. All remaining drivers will race in the last chance CRC B-Main with the first 6 drivers to pass the finish line after 12 laps transferring to the winner takes all DHL A-Main presented by Cardwell Racing Supplies. Supporting this show are the Modifieds, Stockcars, Production Saloons and Ministocks with the Modified and Production Saloons competing for the Canterbury Championship in their respective classes.
