2014 Brown & Syme Painting Contractors ‘Rumble by the River’ This weekend the second running of the Stockcar Rumble by the River will hit AmPro Tools Woodford Glen Speedway. 16 visiting drivers will be paired off with 16 local drivers in a best pairs format over two nights of action packed Stockcar racing. Confirmed visiting drivers to date below (two more to be named). Due to the high number of drivers racing at Woodford Glen, drivers have had to qualify to race at this event and those will be named later this week. Tony Oliver of Greenstone Park Speedway Greymouth was the inaugural winner of this event in 2012 when he was paired with Woodford Glens Colin Cameron. Unfortunately Colin is unable to qualify for this year’s running of the event due to injury which has ruled him out for the remainder of the season. It is great to see Tony returning to run at this event in his immaculate OAS, Holden V6 powered car. Steve Biddulph is another driver that hasn’t been seen at the Glen this year and is sure to impress in his recently acquired new Keith Gill chassis. Returning to the Glen for this show from the North Island is regular visitors Brad Powell and Ken Meehan of Palmerston North. Both drivers are usually racing here as part of the KB’s Cowboys Stockcar team at the Annual North vs. South Stockcar teams held on show weekend. Mitch Fairhurst was also part of last year’s North vs. South Teams when he represented his Wanganui club in the 85V car and is looking forward to this show. Rotorua will be well represented by the very fast Chris Hall and Mike Herbert. Whilst Chris is no stranger to Woodford Glen fans, Mike Herbert hasn’t raced a lot at the Glen but did race here at the 2013 New Zealand Stockcar Champs.
