"2014 Elf Lubricants North vs. South Super Saloon Nat Teams"
Friday & Saturday 14th & 15th March 2014
In just under two weeks time AmPro Tools Woodford Glen Speedway will roar in to life to the tune twenty of the best Super Saloon drivers from all over New Zealand. Billed as the best Super Saloon show of the year, AmPro Tools Woodford Glen is the proud host of the 2014 Elf Lubricants North vs. South Super Saloon Nat Teams. Heading the list of entries are New Zealand’s top three drivers – 1NZ Mark Osborne, 2NZ Ian Burson and 3NZ Steve Flynn. They are in good company with no less than three former National champions in Tauranga’s Brent Emerson and Dean Waddell (both 2 time champions) and current 3NZ, Steve Flynn of Hawkes Bay who was 1NZ in 2012. The talent for this show doesn’t stop there with drivers such as Lance Jennings, Ben Harding and Mark Pitcher to name a few, determined to represent the North Island for national pride as they take on the best the Mainland has to offer. Local hero’s such as Richie Taylor, Willie Woodhouse and Dennis Bolt will be joined by Blenheim’s Paddy North and Nelson’s Shane Carey all of whom will be equally determined to claim the silverware and bragging rights as the best Super Saloon drivers in New Zealand. This is a show like no other and the format promises to deliver speedway fans a thrilling weekends racing.
The first event of the weekend on Friday night will see all twenty drivers head out to the infield in readiness for five separate sprint races called the ‘4x4 Super Nat Teams’. Two drivers from each Island will race four laps each to earn points for their team with each island having the chance to start from pole position. First place in each of the 4x4 sprint races will see that driver receive 18 points for their team whilst second place will get 12 points, third 8 points and fourth place 4 points. The following three events on the Friday night will see all twenty drivers on the track at once with each heat raced over 15 laps. Drivers will earn points in these three heats towards their teams total for the weekend. The first placed driver in each of these heats will receive 20 points, second place will get 19 points, third 18 points and so on down to 1 point for last. All points earned by each team will transfer to the Saturday night with the team who scores the highest number of points at the end of Saturday night being crowned the ‘2014 Elf Lubricants North vs. South Super Saloon Nat Teams Champions’!
Saturday night will see the intensity increased with event one of the night reverting back to the 4x4 teams sprint races as per Friday night. Event two will also see another five, 4x4 sprint races. Things will get interesting in event three of the night when each island will be asked to provide five cars for two separate teams races over ten laps. This is when team tactics will come in to play as the points structure changes and may well be the turning point of the weekend. Whilst the first two teams events of the night will see the same points on offer as night one, a win in a 5x5 teams race will see that driver earn 20 points for his team whilst second place will get 16 points, third 13 points, fourth 11, fifth 10, sixth 9, seventh 8, eight 7, ninth 6 with tenth place getting 5 points. After the completion of the two 5x5 teams races, all points scored by each team will be totalled to find the winning team.
The last race of the night will be the all in, winner takes all 30 lap feature. However this race has a twist which will see the fastest driver of the weekend starting the feature from the rear of the field. The driver to start from the rear of the grid will be determined by lap times over the course of the weekend. Therefore the driver who records the fastest lap in any race over the weekend will start off the back. Now for the twist, this driver will get to choose who starts beside them off the back! In turn that driver will then choose who starts from the grid directly in front and so on forward to pole position. This is a show not to be missed thanks to Elf Lubricants.“Meet the North Island team at Burger King Belfast, cnr of Main North & Johns Rd’s, this Friday from 1-4pm”
