"North V South Stockcar Teams Challenge"
Friday 14th & Saturday 15th November 2014
‘North vs. South Stockcar Teams plus Sprintcar War of the Wings’
Woodford Glen is the place to be this show weekend as we head in to the first of our two night shows and we start it off with a double header featuring Stockcar teams racing and round two of the Sprintcar ‘War of the Wings’. Once again we welcome back the Sprintcar class which will see the Glen hosting the best of the best Sprintcar drivers from around the South Island. All eyes will however be on Australian ‘Wild Man’ Allan Woods who has this year entered the ‘War of the Wings’ series. Woods is no stranger to the Sprintcar class in New Zealand and is sure to add some spice to an already star studded line up. Some of the confirmed drivers to date include defending series champion Jason Scott of Cromwell. Scott may have the upper hand on the rest of the field as he ran his Modified here at the Glen’s Fireworks show last weekend. Another to watch will be Jamie Duff who does most of his racing out of Western Springs in Auckland. Duff won last year’s feature race here at the Glen in stunning fashion when he came from the rear of the field for the win. The dark horse of this meeting could be West Coaster Steve Thompson who is a surprise entry. Thompson is a regular visitor to the Glen driving the very fast 54GM Modified. A full list of drivers will be available shortly.
Not to be outshone the Stockcar class promise to entertain the fans in their own way as we head in to the first teams racing show of the year. The Annual ‘North vs. South Stockcar teams challenge is once again set to offer hard hitting teams racing action at its best! Unfortunately the Eastern States Titans of Blenheim are unable to field a team this year and at the present time we are negotiating a replacement team to fill their vacant spot. Once again we are happy to confirm the two teams representing the North Island are KB’s Cowboys from Palmerston North and team Heibner of Wanganui. The Cowboy’s will once again be led by founding member Ken ‘KB’ Meehan and he has once again assembled a strong team consisting of 2NZ SuperStock driver Jordan Dare, the very fast Mitchell Hill, Mark Taylor and first time teams visitor Zac Hoult. However Hoult is no stranger to Woodford Glen having raced here back in 2013 at the New Zealand Stockcar Championship. Steve Heibner of Wanganui (a very competitive past Sidecar racer) has once again thrown his support behind the North vs. South Teams event and has also put together a very strong team. This team will be led by another accomplished SuperStock racer based out of Wanganui, Kyle Heibner. Like Jordan Dare of Palmerston North (Manawatu Mustangs), Heibner races for the Wanganui Vulcan’s SuperStock team and drives a very fast and consistent Stockcar. Backing Heibner up is a bunch of young guns in Sam Doyle, Mitch Vickery and Mark Johnston whilst the final spot is taken by the very experienced (and evergreen) Sandy Flett. With the Canterbury Crushers racing this weekend in Blenheim, the confirmed line up will be named Monday whilst the second South Island team also to be named at this time.
This is a show not to be missed. Admission to this show costs only $17 for Adults, $35 for a Family (2 adults & up to 4 children 14yrs & under) whilst Seniors pay just $10 and as always under 5’s are free!
