Suck it Up Ltd
22nd running of "Battle of the Stocks"
Friday & Saturday March 27th & 28th 2015SATURDAY RESULTS
AmPro Tools and Woodford Glen presents the 2015 Suck it Up ‘Battle of the Stocks!’ Thirty two of the best drivers from all over New Zealand are set to hit AmPro Tools Woodford Glen Speedway for the 22nd running of Battle of the Stocks.
This iconic Canterbury event has withstood the test of time and is without doubt one of SuperStock racing’s most prestigious events. Originally the brainchild of then promoter Jeanette Bolt, the ‘Big Guns’ of the Stockcar (as they were then known) scene converged on the Glen some 22 years ago after the 1993 New Zealand Stockcar Championship at Invercargill. Names such as Rumney, Podjursky and Ellis to name a few, brought a professionalism to Stockcar racing that had never been seen before at the Glen. 22 years on and many battles later, this iconic show has continued to grow with drivers from all over New Zealand wanting the opportunity to enter the battle! With no less than three past New Zealand Champions, numerous Grand Prix winners, World 240 and Island Champions, this year’s Battle of the Stocks will once again deliver SuperStock racing action at its best. Race fans, this is a star studded field not to be missed!
AmPro Tools Woodford Glen and Suck it Up Ltd are happy to confirm all 32 entries for the 22nd running of ‘Battle of the Stocks’ Heading the entry list is current 2NZ Peter Bengston of Palmerston North. He will be chased hard by the current New Zealand Grand Prix champion Dale Robertson of Wellington. Past New Zealand, current South Island champion and local hero Malcolm Ngatai will keep the flying north islanders honest as will past south island champions from Nelson, Shane Harwood and Brett Nicholls.
From Rotorua - Lance Ashton & Robbie Mabey, Hawkes Bay – Thomas Stanaway, Auckland - Carl Hodge, Palmerston North – 2NZ Peter Bengston, Wayne Hemi, Jordan Dare, Scott Joblin, Andy McCabe, Chev Taniwha, Simon Joblin, & Keven Roberts, Stratford Phil Ogle, Wellington New Zealand Grand Prix Champion Dale Robertson & Allen Levien, Tauranga – Ross Ashby, Nelson Ricky Boulton, Jared Gray, Brett Nicholls, Alex Bright, Ian Clayworth, Shane Harwood & Blair Cunningham, CHCH – South Island Champion Malcolm Ngatai, Jason Fletcher, Damian Elley, Jamie Hamilton, Jacob Brownlees, Peter Field, Peter Ross, Sonny Hammond & Noel Inns.
Once again Super Saloon fans can look forward to another quality field of drivers for the 2015 Canterbury Super Saloon Champs. Defending champion Richie Taylor surely must be one of the favourites to take the silverware after a fantastic season which has seen the Timaru racer claim the South Island Championship and most recently the Elf Super Cup which is raced over numerous rounds at most south island tracks. 2NZ Mark ‘Fluffy’ Grocott is another who should be near the pointy end of the field in what has been a fantastic season for him. Obviously his second placing at the New Zealand champs in Wellington is a highlight but he has been very quick at the Glen this season which has seen him break the 12 lap Super Saloon record. However with the likes of Kane Lawson, Trevor Elliot, and rookie driver Jason Phillips all finishing in the top 10 of the Elf Super Cup, this championship is wide open for the taking! At this stage we are also expecting to see the Carey brothers (Mark 35N & Shane 12N) of Nelson competing for the silverware with Blenheim’s Paddy North a possibility as is Cromwell’s Ray Stewart. If the rumour mill is correct, the very fast Willie Woodhouse won’t be racing due to accident damage sustained in Nelson on the weekend. With a quality field of at least 14 cars, this year’s Canterbury Super Saloon champs will certainly be a show not to be missed.
