Tribute to Jo Giles
Canterbury Earthquake Victim - 22nd February 2011
Woodford Glen supporters, club members, staff, drivers & crew members are mourning the loss of one of it’s most passionate and dedicated drivers.
During Christchurch’s devastating earthquake, Jo Giles was sadly taken from us while at work in the CTV building.Jo was dedicated and passionate in all aspects of her life. From office worker to selling door mats. From jockey to race car driver. From hairdresser to running for mayor. Jo displayed her ability to take on and conquer any new challenges.
Here at Woodford Glen Jo began racing in Production Saloons and before long her trademark pink car became very competitive.
After several successful seasons Jo took on the challenge of stepping up to A Grade Saloons.
Jo said she was very excited when offered the opportunity to race in the class but also a little nervous as the steering wheel was on the wrong side of the car. However even after a close shave with the wall in that first meeting Jo settled into a consistent pace which led to the purchase of her own A Grade Saloon soon after.
To quote Jo: “What more can I say but thank you to all the A Grade Drivers for making me feel so welcome. What a neat bunch of Guy’s”.Jo showed she was more than capable during her last meeting here at the Glen. She displayed her ability when she moved from her 4 cylinder Honda into the power of a V8 Mustang.
After this race Jo was smiling from ear to ear and was excited about her racing again, but then off she ran to grab the next driver to interview for CTV’s Thunder at the Glen program. All our thoughts go out to her partner & soul mate Dave and to her children, Sam, Anna, Olivia & James.
Her youthful exuberance and indelible smile will be sadly missed yet never forgotten.Godspeed our dear friend Jo.
