NZ Streetstock Grand Prix Qualifying

BLUE GROUP
Heat 1. The greasy track early on caught several of the drivers out. 8n Russell Lloyd hit the turn 3 wall real hard putting an end to his night. 11k Stephen de Malmanche's car was misfiring and off the pace. 12a Mark McNabb was left without steering and tried several times to coax his car across the finish line and only just doing so before the race was called. DNF's for 8n Russell Lloyd, 6c Stephen Turner & 17c Blair Leigh.
Heat 2. 12a Mark McNabb & 56i Shane Pedley were the losers in the 4 car sandwich which occured in front of the grandstand, both cars ending up on the infield with severe steering issues. They were soon joined by 37c Lee Morris who needed tow truck assistance off the track. 12a Mark McNabb again limped his car across the finish line before requiring the tow truck to return to the pits. DNF's 37c Lee Morris & 56i Shane Pedley.
Heat 3. 10 starters made it to the start grid of the final heat. 12a Mark McNabb's night from hell continued when he spun in the first corner. This race was interesting to watch as 34c Pat Anngow took a few pot shots at several out of town cars as he drove slower on the pole line. All 10 starters finished this heat.

RED GROUP
Heat 1. 46a Bill Peat was spun to the infield and out of contention by 76c Alex Gowans. This heat looked relatively tame and nearing the final laps Gowans also pulled infield with a very sick smelling engine. DNF's 46a Bill Peat, 76c Alex Gowans, 7c Michael Stronach, 27i Peter Knight.
Heat 2. 22n Andy Guthrie failed to mark the start grid after driving out the pit gate. Other than 96k Trevor de Malmanche hitting the turn 1 wall this heat appeared rather tame in comparison to the first heat. However this resulted in no DNF's.
Heat 3. 12 starters made it to the start grid of this final heat. 46a Bill Peat spun early again. First heat winner 15e Matt Watson pulled to the infield with a deflated tyre and had to limp across the finish line at the end of the heat. 16c Andrew McPherson may find himself a marked man in Saturdays finals as he appeared to cruise through to gain two wins and a second. DNF 69c Brian Hurst.

YELLOW GROUP
Heat 1. 661d Russell Stewart spun early followed soon after by 97a Stephen Beale. This group appeared to be the tamest of the three with minimal contact and no DNF's in this heat.
Heat 2. 29c Michael Jones failed to complete the first lap and required tow truck assistance to the infield. 661d Russell Stewart was spun by 63c Steven Jackson who was in dense traffic. Similar traffic problems resulted in 88b David Hampton receiving a flat tyre and tyre issues also plagued 469e Gavin Marshall. DNF's 29c Michael Jones & 63c Steven Jackson.
Heat 3. 14 starters took the final heat and it wasn't long before 79c Noel Edgeworth & 47i Geoff Loan got hooked together in turn 4. This cost the pair at least 3 laps of racing. 18c Stephen Lennon just managed to avoid a head-on collision with the spinning 469e Gavin Marshall in turn 1 who had a blown tyre. DNF's for 51c Greg Strachan & 469e Gavin Marshall.
