Battle
of the Stocks
Friday 18th March 2006
The fast paced action from friday continued tonight but it appeared that targets had been sighted and paybacks were being dished out. The first big hit resulted in a huge chunk of the turn 3 concrete wall being reduced to rubble and requiring the crowd to be dispersed from the area. This also put an end to 19c Malcolm Ngatai's weekend of racing. The lack of racing on the friday night for 77b Shane Penn meant he had a point to prove and he certainly managed that winning all three of tonights heats. 2nz Wayne Hemi became a target and was spun in at least one heat and had to retire to the infield in another with what appeared to be a gear selection issue. The good turn of speed from 58p Peter Bengston carried him and partner 47c Nigel Keats to 2nd overall for the weekend. 72p Simon Joblin survived a torrid night along with his pairing 18c Jeremy Maxwell to finish a fine third overall. But the 2006 Battle of the Stocks Champions are the south island combination of 14n Dale Ewers and 89c Andrew Good. 515r Stan Hickey emerged with the highest total individual points on a very impressive 166pts. Well done to ALL the competitors for such an awesome spectacle. |

Battle
of the Stocks
Friday 17th March 2006
It never ceases to amaze me at just how much faster these Superstocks manage to get each year. I consider it a privilege to have some of the top superstock teams converge on the Glen for what always turns out to be an awesome event. This year has provided some interesting pairings and emerging from the battle ahead on points after night one are 72p Simon Joblin & 18c Jeremy Maxwell (135pts). 2nd overnight on points is the pairing of 2nz Wayne Hemi & 42c Kevin Nortman (131pts). 58p Peter Bengston was flying considering it was his first outing at the Glen and combining his points with 47c Nigel Keats (130pts) puts them in 3rd position overall. Although these three pairings are ahead of 4th place by 14points it is also obvious that they are likely to become targets on saturday night. Be sure to get trackside for saturday nights racing and MAY THE BATTLE CONTINUE ! |
