Glen Eagles
vs Nelson Tigers
Saturday 1st December 2007
We just cannot trust those weather gods when
it comes to teams racing at Woodford Glen. Last season
the weather played havoc with this meeting and the same
has occured yet again. Not only are the Tigers wondering
if Christchurch can produce fine weather but I feel sorry
for the likes of Murray Greig who travels for 7 hours
from Invercargill to not even get the race car onto the
track. However we did get to see one of the most exciting teams races at the Glen in years. With the slippery track conditions seeming to slow progress it appeared that every car was halted on the exit of turn 4 for what seemed an eternity but emerging to begin with was two Tigers cars. It wasn't long before the team tactics came into play and the Eagles began to soar. The tables were turned when after being backed up on top of the turn 3 wall 77c Mark Osborne grasped the lead and charged off for what looked to be a possible win. Just when you think "it's in the bag" Mark clipped a stationary car at speed which in turn caused himself to spin and lose the lead to the Tigers. The next Eagle to take up the chase was 74 Jason Smith who drove the most aggresive race I've seen from him in the time he's been racing. Although a couple of mistakes and ensuing spins resulted it appeared that Jason now had a possible win "in the bag". And although many of the crowd were on their feet Jason was captured in turn 1 which allowed the wounded Tiger, 85n Dale Ewers to sneak into the lead. His collapsed front tyre didn't deter him and he still managed to speed away for a team victory. So it's "WELL DONE" to the Nelson Tigers who I am sure will be celebrating a welcomed victory. With the improvement of the south island teams we can now look forward to the Teams Nationals in Palmerston North in February. And tonights DON Award (Driver Of the Night) goes to Jason Smith for giving it everything and never letting up. Tonights racing was however cut short due to persistent rainfall but for the dedicated fans who were trackside rest assured that you can use the ticket stub you were given at the gate as a validated entry for Boxing Day 2007. Meantime Merry Xmas to Everyone. Anne
