Super Saloon Canterbury Championships
& Superstock Teams
Saturday 24th February 2007

And the champions are ... 2nd 881d Bruce Boulton, 1st 6c Dennis Bolt, 3rd, 32c Martin Harcourt.
6c Dennis Bolt stamped his mark on this championship early by winning the first heat and making it look relatively easy. The first contender to drop from the race was Richie Taylor in his 58c Corvette due to broken steering. The 19 car field was depleted to around 12 by midway through the second heat with several clashes resulting in cars littering the infield. The final heat was a 25 lap Grand Prix format and the leader for nearly 20 of those laps was the 25d Corvette of Mike Verdona. Cars continued to drop from the race but after the last caution period Dennis managed to pounce on Verdona's car which seemed to be loosing it's earlier grip. This also handed Boulton & Harcourt the chance to pass which resulted in Verdona just missing out on a podium placing.

The Cougar & Tiger superstock teams also made the trek to Canterbury for the superstock teams events. The first race winners were the Tigers over the Cougars. The Cougars are definately beginning to gel nicely as a team and with some improvement in their blocking skills and a little more race time under their belts I can see this team will produce some good results. The Tigers were also victorious in the race against the Glen Eagles when 72c Malcolm Ngatai (who had led for a majority of the race) got tangled up in turn 3 handing the win over to the Nelsonians. The Cougars again fought extremely well against the Glen Eagles in the final teams race of the evening but after having their feathers ruffled against the Tigers the Eagles weren't going to be stopped that easily. Congratulations to the Tigers on winning the McCall Trophy and the DERT Cup and congratulations also to the Glen Eagles on winning the Rod Beckett Memorial Trophy. The all-in races saw pay-backs galore handed out with some torrid racing and roll-overs for 39c Janette Dickson and Glen Eagle 74c Jason Smith.

This meeting proved to be another of the well run and entertaining race nights that Woodford Glen are consistently providing for the growing fan base. This also gave the race fans a taste of whats to come in the Battle of the Stocks meeting in March. It just wouldn't be summer without speedway ... Where will you be?

Note: No ELS data is available for tonights racing.
