Remembrance Championships & Ramp Race Derby
Boxing Day ... December 2006

The Remembrance Championships are contested annually in all classes as a memorial to past drivers, crew and staff who have committed so much to the club. Tonight began with a minutes silence and then a unique rendition of "Drivers in Heaven" sung by Paul Nees was played over the PA system. The lyrics for this song were arranged especially for the event and makes mention of several well known names from Woodford Glen's past. It can also now be downloaded by clicking here. The extremely dry condition of the track caught many teams out with a lot of cars spinning and/or having traction issues. I am sure this was entertaining for the large crowd on hand but also very frustrating for drivers and crew. The 84c Modified of Natasha Rodgers was one of the early victims when she suffered a punctured right rear after trying to avoid a spinning car. This left the remainder of the class battling for 2nd as 29c Glen Leech just left them in his dust. 19c Malcolm Ngatai just continues to out perform the other Superstocks and even seems to easily brush off any attacking attempts along the way to victory. The Super Saloon class was bolstered with several out of town drivers who appeared to perform well in the dry conditions but it wasn't long before local "hot-shoe" 58c Richie Taylor was dialed in and got the better of them. A huge roll-over in the Streetstocks provided a taste of what the crowd were hoping to see in the Ramp Race later in the evening. And in the Production Saloons 76c James Archbold looks to be getting his new Prelude sorted out taking a couple of wins. The always entertaining ramp race was successfully conquered by 24 Chris Elkington but not before he had to avoid the carnage unfolding around him.

NOTE: Unforeseen circumstances has led to some of tonights ELS data being corrupted so it may not reflect true positions.
