Super Saloon Champion of Champions
Saturday 17th November 2007

What a brilliant nights racing for the fans but possibly an expensive one for several of the drivers & car owners. The final heat was cursed right from the outset when the commentators mentioned how last years meeting ran from green flag to checkered without incident. Well ... tonights final made up for that in triplicate. The first roll-over victim was Ray Stewart who in turn one of his heat had his car tipped "wheels up". In the 16 car final the next driver to succumb to the pressure was Bunter Pierce who collected the turn 1 wall very hard and required st john assistance to remove him from the car. However the driver to gain top points for acrobatic ability was Tony Cardwell who after a mediocre result from the heats attempted some aggressive passing during the 25 lap final. This resulted in contact with the back straight wall and an inevitable climb of the concrete and at no time did Tony decelerate which induced a barrel roll along the wall for half the length of the straight and then the mustang dug into the track which in turn sent the car into another serious of vicious roll-overs. Over the last few seasons it seems that TC always drags home a pile of bits in his trailer instead of a complete car. I'm sure this is entertaining for the fans but I wonder if he is due for a bit of better luck in the south island.

My "DON Award" (Driver Of the Night) is very difficult to determine as so many drivers made impressions at various stages. It would have to come down to Keegan versus Waddell purely from the results plus Keegan broke the 6 lap race record during the top six shoot-out. Their cars remained virtually unmarked among the carnage happening around them so I will leave you to determine the deserving winner from these two and I gather your decisions may vary depending on wether your a Ford or Chevy fan or even if your biased towards north or south island based drivers. No matter who you choose ... that was an awesome race meeting and one to remember. Bring on the Hoopla!
